Tasmania State Summary
Clean, green Tasmania produces superb foods and wines. Our seafoods, beef and lamb, fruits and vegetables, and cheeses are fresh, pure and flavoursome. Our hops make fine beers, and our cool-climate grapes superb wines.
The mountainous west is thickly covered in rainforest. The central plateau, dotted with hundreds of lakes, is drier, and rolling hills slope down to the dry, warm east coast. Diverse vegetation supports many species of animals - some unique to the island.
Small towns are scattered near the north and east coasts and in the midlands. Farming and fishing are traditional, as is hospitality. Accommodation can be found in all towns, most villages and on many farms.
